Now THIS Is A Hero

A 4-year-old northwest Iowa girl who climbed her way out of an overturned pickup truck and trudged a quarter-mile across a field covered in a foot of snow said she just “wanted to help” her mother and younger brother. Averie Carrion went in search of help after her mom, 25-year-old Jamie Carrion, hit a slick spot on Iowa Highway 10 while heading home to Granville. Carrion had borrowed her stepfather’s truck. She told Sioux City television station KTIV that although Averie normally rode in a car seat, she was just wearing a seat belt Sunday night while riding in the back seat with her 1-year-old brother. “We hit the ditch and we rolled about two or three times,” Carrion said. The truck ended up lying on its passenger side. Carrion said she was stuck in the truck and could see her son, but not Averie, when she called 911. “I thought she was unconscious and I thought she was pinned under the vehicle and I started to panic,” Carrion said. But Averie had managed to get out of the truck and head across a field to a farmhouse.

Determined little thing, isn't she? That's amazing.

I am most amazed that she was able to keep her head after that crash, get out of her baby seat, get out of the car and make her way to another house. Fabulous. If that was me at the same age, all I would have been doing was filling my diaper...over and over again.

Exactly. She didn't cry or flip out or wait for her mom to fix it, she just took matters into her own hands. I know some adults who still haven't learned to do that (!!!!) and this girl is only four, technically still a toddler! Really remarkable.
