Riddle Me This

Let me ask you a question. If you were an artist and were commissioned to do a piece of art, would you, or would you not put pictures of said pieces on your webite? Should I feel insulted that there is no mention on her website of the stuff she made for me or just let it go? I am really jazzed about the KAL plushies and wish other people thought they were cool as well.

I'd probably feel that with something as private/personal as a caricature/self-portrait, the client/owner reserves the right to determine how/where it is displayed.

I just wish she felt proud enough of the work she did for me that she would want it to be an example of the variety of character types she is capable of.

When I do commission work I don't share unless the client has given me a signed consent. (lawyer said so *pout*) Maybe you just need to tell her it's OK to crow about it? I think it's FAB! :O)

I agree. Ask her!

well, these dolls can be interesting only to us who know you, Lee, so I don't see why she would put them on her official site.
When I do cakes, I photograph and post only my private cakes, not the ones I made for others.

I usually will not post work that I have done for someone else until I have permission from the client. I have a few pieces that I am very proud of that I cannot show off because the clients have not given me leave to do so.

Also sometimes I am so busy doing commissions I don't have time to update my website. It's a double edged sword. If you're too busy to put new stuff on your website, your main advertising tool, then you might be hesitant to do so because if you do then you might become even busier.

As stated by others above. When I do commission work, it belongs to my client. It is their prerogative to post it if they wish, but it is not proper for me to do so unless they give me written permission.

I grew up in a family of artists, and what everyone is saying in the above comments is pretty much right on. And I'm sure she is proud of the figures or you would not have received them. They're great.
