The video below gives you the reasons why they decided to break the adaptation of one of the great Batman stories into two parts. That means four great hours of animated entertainment and storytelling to look forward to. The first part will be released at the end of September and the next several months later.
Anytone who knows their graphic novels understands why The Dark Knight Returns is such an important work in the hisory of the genre. It was one of the first of the 'dark and gritty' comics that so dominated the 90s. Everyone thought they could re-capture the lighting that this project originally generated by just making their hero into a bad guy.
The Dark Knight Returns is much more complex than that. This is a story that has points to make about the decline of society and the role of the superhero in it.
DC does such a great job with it's animated properties. Aside from Batman and Superman, the live action franchises are all but dead. I wish the animators could influence the live action movie division of DC just enough to get a live action Justice League into the pipeline.
This is another terrific graphic novel that you owe to yourself to read in it's entirely. I doubt you can put it down once you start. Nearly all local libraries will have a copy of this Frank Miller classic.

*sigh* It's so cool that you guys can get comics at the library. Here, if we wanna read them, we have to BUY them, and imported stuff COSTS A LOT. =(
You should almost use a bit torrent site and download them for free. If the technology is there you should take advantage of it.
I bought the comics when they FIRST came out at the stands...I fell in love with issue 2. The fight between the Mutant and Batman was SO cool. I am so glad that 26 years later they are making an animated movie of it! So flippin cool! I wish Marvel would adapt some of it´s stuff into animated movies. Infinity Gauntlet etc.
