Harry Reems Dead At 65

Harry Reems, one of the most famous and active male porn stars of all time, died early this week. His most famous role was in the porn classic - Deep Throat - currently the topic of a new movie starring Amanda Seyfried.

Harry was instantly recognizable for his excellent 70s mustache that few have even came close to matching (except for Tom Selleck) since. I also remember him for the series of obscenity trials he went through after the release of Deep Throat. He became the poster boy for those who wanted to make porn films illegal to make or distribute. Eventually all the charges were dropped but the damage to Harry's career was permanent. He was too famous to ever work in legitimate movies and acting was his first love.

No one seemed to understand that without porn, we would not have the advances in technology in the 80s like video cassette recorders or the Internet itself. The ability to watch a nice porno in the privacy of your own home led to a boom in VCR sales and video production. No longer did a person have be satisfied with grainy 8mm XXX loops or visiting a grubby porn theatre to get their fix.

A whole generation of young men also started to believe that all women liked to screw the plumber or the pizza delivery guy just because they couldn't pay for their services.

Next time you watch a streaming video, thank Harry and his ilk for motivating those early Internet developers to prefect the way that the Internet distributes porn. Without those innovations, You Tube would not exist.

How porn was distributed on the Net became the example to follow for the delivery of all video content.

When virtual reality is perfected you can be sure that it will be first designed to give people a sexual experience before any other kind of fake reality situations come out.

I had one young friend a couple years back who screwed the cable guy. I asked her if she knew what a cliche she was perpetuating.
