This was the first 'GREAT' movie I remember my father taking me to at the Base Theatre. They got all the classics as they rotated from base to base and back again all over the world. Our theatre was particularly good. You could see a 3 different movies a week with 2 of them being a great classic from the past.
I feel in love with the movie, it's magnificent vistas and especically Peter O'Toole as Lawrence. It was one of those performances that allowed me to enjoy everything Peter did after that. Just look at the way he convinced Auda Abu Tayi, a important tribal leader to join their crazy campaign. Anthony Quinn was no slouch and despite this being O'Toole's first film performance, he dominated the screen against many screen veterans. His performance as Lawrence was magnetic. He was also nominated for the first of eight Academy Award nominations. That year he lost to Gregory Peck in 'To Kill A Mockingbird', another favorite of mine.
At the beginning of pay TV his movie, My Favorite Year where he played a boozing TV performer during the early days of television, played over many times. This is another classic I can't resist. O'Toole was nominated for that performance too. That's the movie I choose to watch of his today.

My Favorite Year was a film that we saw years ago... His performance is what made "High Spirits" worth viewing ... he acting skills will be missed.....
Every time I hear the name, Peter O'Toole, I think of one movie.... Supergirl....

He'll always be Lawrence of Arabia to me. He was brilliant in that role.
