None Of These Prediction Look Remotely Practical Or Safe

En L’An 2000 (In the Year 2000) is a series of visionary cigarette cards and postcards by Jean-Marc Côté and other artists.  

First produced for the 1900 World Exhibition in Paris – the cards were distributed in 1899, 1900, 1901 and 1910 – the world of the future in 2000 was plain to see.

Technology would not create a dystopian future. Science would increase our leisure time, create plentiful food and enable us to fly everywhere. 2000 AD would be terrific.

But that was then. And we’re still asking, ‘Dude, where my flying car?’

 

Even though drinking and flying is never a good idea, I would not begrudge a drink to the man who can fly THIS close to the side of the patio and not wreck into the building.

 

I think man invented a device to fly to do some good...not to scare the natives just because you are some rich asshole with a pilot's license. I hope they invent a giant flaming bow to take down this SKY MONSTER. Then I want them to feast on the burnt meat within the remains of the device after if falls to the ground.

 

One thing about fire, it creates hot air that creates lift which will drag the firemen and their hoses further way from the fire. Plus I don't want flaming body parts landing one the streets.

 

Again, if the cops and criminals have flying machines then why don't the general public? And I don't want cops shooting down flying machines only to have their flaming wreckage land on some primer school.

 

This mail delivery service depends on the flyer and the catcher to be in perfect synch. How many times did you think the mail guy went into the side of the building, killing himself as a result. Why not put the male in a bag that you could throw at the guy as you pass by. That is at least safer and practical.

 

That's all we need, robots with straight razors doing shaves. This is a nicked artery and bloodbath waiting to happy. And you know what happens to a barber robot once they get the taste of blood, don't you? That's right, they kill and kill and kill until they are stopped from killing.

 

This early version of Skype actually came true.
