This Is Too Crazy, Even For China

First of all, who makes a road with FIFTY LANES?? That is insanity to begin with. Imagine all the accidents that will come from just the changing of the lanes or the cars that run out of gas in the middle of lane 30. What about people who are suck but have to use the restroom, or need food, or water for their children or babies? What if this blockage all happens during a storm or freeze or heat wave? Is there are rescue plan or does everyone die a slow and cannibal filled death? At what point do you beg for death - when the whole thing bottlenecks into a pay toll or long before that? At wait point do you start to kill drivers around you? I assume at the point when you discover you have a gun and some bullets. Now if I was a young entrepreneur I would jump at my chance to sell snacks to these people at overinflated prices. Just get a little moped with a cooler on the back and go make a million. This is insane but so typical for China. I have, of course, only one reasonable solution. I am sorry you have seen me use it before but some situation, absolutely do call for it and this is one of them.

The congestion was caused by a new checkpoint at the other side of the toll, which reduced the width of the road from 50 to less than 20 lanes.
The shocking scenes were one of the many traffic nightmares across the country yesterday. Motorways in other major cities, such as Shanghai and Nanjing, also saw serious congestion.

Known as the 'Golden Week', the Chinese National Day celebration witnesses an explosion in tourism every year. It's one of the few opportunities for people to get time off work and enjoy a long-distance holiday.

China's National Tourism Administration estimated that more than 750 million Chinese would be on the move between October 1 and 7, which is half of the nation’s population.

The figure marks a 6.1 year-on-year increase.

I thought traffic was bad here in Tucson. That is a nightmare.
Overpopulation much?
