I Was A Teacher For 20 Years

And THIS is why you fail, America. You pay so little and you care so little for the people who spend their days with YOUR children. You nickle and dime them yet they stay because Teachers CARE while those you cheer for DO NOT. Stay ignorant. You get the society you deserve.

That's right. It's shameful how they treat teachers in the USA. In Canada, you can make a decent living as a teacher but you sure can't in the States.

My middle daughter is a teacher in a school district outside of Phoenix. If she didn't have me to help her out on occasion, I don't know how she would survive on what she earns. The American education system is a disgrace for many, many reasons. But among the chief reasons is an unwillingness to properly fund the resources needed to properly educate our youth, which includes paying teachers what they are worth. She has a Masters degree and works 12-15 hours a day, and some weekends, for $40,000 a year. In addition, my daughter is required - that's right, REQUIRED -- to purchase school supplies (pencils, paper, etc.) out of her own pocket for her students and is PROHIBITED from asking parents to make sure their children have basic supplies for schools. (God forbid that the SCHOOL should provide them!) She is required to have certain items in her classroom and to decorate the classroom, all out of her funds. She is required to have a classroom library of at least 300 books, which she pays for. She has purchased software and licenses from her own money in order to supplement her lesson plans for her kids. She is a dedicated educator, devoted to her students. A little help from the School District would go a long way. We won't hold our breath waiting for it. And this is only one reason why they can't attract good teachers and why so many teachers burn out or drop out of the profession. It's a disservice to the kids and why so many kids these days can only barely read or do basic math.

Only something that makes someone money is important, don't you know.

It's a deliberate effort to dumb down the population and keep them from voting because they are undereducated. It's insidious really. I loved being a teacher but I was paid well for my efforts bacause my nation values education and our people would not tolerate anything less. Thought there will always be those who think teachers are paid too much but professional athletes are not.
