Comic Book Memories

This was how X-Men 132 ended.

In the middle of the Dark Phoenix Saga, all of the other X-Men have been captured by the Hellfire Club (a group of evil mutants) except for Wolverine who remains free and is now on a one way search and destroy mission to save his friends. He is the wild card that turns the tide (for a second anyways) in favor of our heroes. Truly one of the great X-Men story arcs and this comic is only in the middle of the tale. I remember waiting a whole month for issue 133 to come out and saved it to read during my high school spare. I had a hostess cupcake and a great comic. It didn't disappoint as a read. You finally understood how truly dangerous Wolverine could be when he truly cut loose. No mutant hero had never been this bloodthirsty before and it was a turning point for the character's popularity. Many of these Hellfire Club guards needed new cybernetic limbs after their encounter with Wolverine. Those that survived anyways. These cyborgs returned years later as the Reavers to get their revenge.

The Claremont/Byrne era is my gold standard of X-Men stories. Every other X book is compared to them.

Well they took fresh mutants and took a book that was a reprint book to the heights. Now they are back with Marvel we might get a great X-Men vs Avengers movie.
