I genuinely hate all these remakes of Disney cartoons that we popular back in the nineties. It's like exploiting a whole new generation of kids with stories they have seen a million times on tap or CD. At least write something new with those characters but don't give me Will Smith as the Genie. It's an insult.
Now Mulan is a great story which will work in live action without the talking Eddie Murphy dragon. It fact this looks like one of those first class Chinese historical action movies that I love so much so I am in. This is one of the few cartoons that CAN be made into live action.
I will miss the songs though.

Thanks for the nod there, Cal. I'm really looking forward to this as a straight wuxia action flick. Sometimes you just don't need songs and a talking dragon.
It's one of the few of these Disney cartoons that you can remake because the story has some basis in truth and the story is very strong without all the usual Disney trappings. At least they got an asian actress but she looks too pretty to fool everyone that she is a boy.
