Spider-Man - Far From Home

"Bitch Please! You've been to space."

I had a big problem with  Mysterio being able to defeat these powerful elementals with just his green smoke. I see no effect on them whatsoever when ever he uses his dubious 'powers' on them.  And if he is not real then his story is not the truth either. Like his comic book origins, Beck is all about special effect. Nothing is real. This opinion comes from a lack of explanation as to the nature of Mysterio's powers. Maybe it's because I can't  think of him as anything but a villain. But they do a good job of making him interesting and charming. All the best bad guys are.

Now knowing that the big twist is coming I can just sit and enjoy all the Peter Parker shenanigans. He's the original hard luck hero and  telling the girl he loves how he feels about her is just one of the complications in his life. It wouldn't be a Spider-Man movie without it. This is how you bring a comic book to life.

Ned is great comedy relief when he finds himself a girlfriend from his class. Of course those two are always in danger of imminent death. Ned is great comedy relief as Peter's best friend.

How Spidey figures out what Beck is really up to  comes too fast - like in the space of three minutes he puts the whole complicate scheme together with only the flimsiest of evidence. But I can live with that. It shows the hero is smart and not been a dumbass all the time.

Samuel L Jackson is stellar again as Nick Fury. I think he must have signed up to do this character until his death. I have no problem with that. He should have Goose with him at all times since Captain Marvel though. Not enough Goose in the MCU. Why bring him up and never use him again. He's an FLERKIN CAT, he can live hundreds of years. It's IMAGINATION. I guess I really just want to see more cats in movies.

Jake G is strong as Mysterio and he plays a convincing hero and mentor to Peter, filling a void that has been empty since the death of Iron Man. He is also a cool charming guy. A smart guy and a guy who cares about people. I enjoyed their friendship and hoped for this to be the core of the next phase of the Avengers. But...of course, a leopard never changes his spots. Never. I see why Jake took this role. They gave him a fantastic revelation and back story. I am very impressed by his performance and his motivations. It makes the villain ten times more interesting. Remember Mysterio was a member of the Sinister Six who were a team of Spider-Man villains.

The European setting is gorgeous and a fresh location for web slinging  around. It's also nice to see something other than generic cities in the background.

Yes, it's loud and noisy. Some of the most spectacular scenes come from Spider-Man discovering his 'spidey-sense." The way he moves through dozens and dozens of killer drones is Spider-Man at his finest and the computer animation does not disappoint. They have perfected the way Spider-Man swings through the city and it's spectacular. That is what makes him such a unique and virtually unkillable superhero.

MJ figuring out who Spider-Man is, is another sweet scene. And another problem for Peter to overcome. She is a very charming actress and you can understand why Peter loves her. The scenes with those two admitting their love for each other is sweet.

And that ending really is terrific and sets up the next Spider-Man film that I am toally upset about. I want to watch what happens NOW, not two years from now. Trust me when I say that the wallcrawlers problems have just gotten exponentially worse.

And that post credit scene is too insane for me to contemplate right now.
