Boris, Coke, and Star Wars? How the hell did I not know about this growing up? Damn.

Just something else that THE MAN kept from all of us.

I have the posters in my collection. The first poster with the duel light sabers was not only the first poster in my Star Wars collection, but one of the first Star Wars collectibles I owned. It also provides a fond memory of my Dad as he bought that for me when the ESB premiered and it is proudly displayed in the Batcave Toy Room today. The others were Burger Chef/Coca Cola promotional posters.

That first poster...I had it too as a kid. I am going to try to replicate it here in Mexico.

You know, what's interesting about this (given that it's Boris) is how bad it is.

I mean, yeah, it's Boris; it's well painted; the lighting and tonality is perfect etc. but he really doesn't seem to grasp what anything is shaped like. The Vader helmets are incredibly weak. And, you can see him struggling with Luke's physique -- you can imagine Boris muttering, "This guy's such a weakling..."

Interesting how different painters have different strengths and weaknesses. Boris is so much better suited to fantasy than to sci-fi. By contrast, somebody like Ralph McQuarrie never misses any of the technology, space suits, vehicles etc. (but can't really do human figures and faces except in a very rudimentary way).

Wow this is fantastic, I had the first poster on my wall for years, don't know what happened to it. But I absolutley love it what a great fantastic artist Boris is.
