Ray Milland Ruined Rosey Grier's Acting Career

Rosey could have been BIG.
But the Man wouldn't let that happen.

Rosey? What about poor old Ray Milland? Reduced to D crap like that in his old age.

Hey, Ray has sold out LONG before this. Have you ever seen FROGS. And Rosie was an up and comer. This broke him. He was never the same knitter afterwards that he was before. Or did he do needle point. I can't remember.

Oh, you beat me to the "Frogs" reference Kal! Maybe just as well, I probably would have made some lame pun about how his career just croaked.

I'm with Debra on this one. OK, so he got old, so what. Getting old sucks, I can attest to that. Maybe he should have retired earlier, but hey, everyone needs money right? Besides, he was great in the Lost Weekend and the Man with the X-ray Eyes.

I say Lost Weekend last year, great movie (though I say that about almost everything that Billy Wilder directed). I don't know how well it might play with more contemporary viewers since it seems like every PSA/Lifetime drama about "Addiction to X ruined my life" is just a pale imitation of that great performance.

I didn't know he was in the Man with X-Ray Eyes, that may move it up on my to-see list.

I admit that Ray M. takes some getting used to in a part, not like say, William Holden, who is just obviously cool and awesome right off the bat. X-Ray eyes is a quirky movie, but Ray M. fits in pretty good.

William Holden always played a guy you could root for. Milland usually played asshole corporate types or asshole rich guys or asshole criminal masterminds.

I remember William Holden from two other Billie Wilder films "Sabrina" and "Stalag 17". Seeing those back to back, I knew he'd made my "Will Watch in Anything" actors list.

Stalag 17. A really great classic. Also Sunset Boulevard. Could watch those anytime!

Two other great films. Holden had one hell of a career.

I enjoyed Sunset Boulevard, but it had the same problem as Blue Brothers, were the disc was so scratched up, I keep hitting snags were I had to flip the disc over from widescreen to fullscreen and then back again to finish the movie! Fortunately both flicks were good enough that this process seemed painless, and it was better than the first time I rented "Die Hard" which as so damaged you couldn't even bring up the title menu.

Sounds like a DVD nightmare. I've gotten dvds from netflix that were actually cracked in half.
PS I really like the dialog in Sunset Boulevard. There's one scene with the dead chimp and the old organ wheezing in the backround. I really like the old voice-over narration by the main character.
