The Last Waltz

One of the great concert films of all time...from a time when everyone played their own instruments and didn't need nothing like autotune to carry a tune. Not a twerk in sight either.

"The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" was recorded in 1969 and released by The Band on their self-titled second album. The song was written by Robbie Robertson.

Levon Helm - R.I.P.

The Last Waltz is an awesome movie. A fantastic record of the end of an era and definitely my favourite version of The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down. Levon's singing was so impassioned! However, you mentioned autotune etc. but did you know that Robbie Robertson overdubbed many of his guitar solos after the event? So it's not all as authentic as it seems...
Still a great movie ( and soundtrack ) though...

Those damn overdubs. I guess that is as close to pure as we ever get. Unless you seen them live.
