Robot Overlords (2014)

"Three years ago the robots invaded Earth. The war was over in just eleven days."

ELEVEN FREAKIN DAYS!! We lasted that long against a technologically advanced army from space. Not bad for a bunch of hairless apes.

I also don't think I would be too afraid of aliens who only had one rule during their occupation and that was to stay INDOORS. I am doing that already but I am offended that I would have to be told that. I would rebel like the punk kids do in this one. Not a bad premise for a film but then I read this description and knew then that my evening was set.

Gillian Anderson and Ben Kingsley star in this tale of a group of kids doing battle with the giant robots who have enslaved the planet.

The effects aren't bad and the whole thing has a nice family feel to it believe it or not. The kids are united by an accident that allows them not to be monitored or noticed by the robots when they are outside. You would have thought if it was that easy to shut down the trackers that everyone would be doing it and the robots would find a solution to free roaming teens. Every coincidence just seems to further the plot. There is no real reason for the kid to be able to control robots but there it is. Just don't spend too much time thinking of this one too closely and you will get invested in the characters and the story. Then the movie will end and you will remember nothing of what you just saw. It's got a bit of a good idea but nothing is exiting or dramatic enough to stick around for very long.

You would also think that the robot they use to talk to us on media would be more advanced piece of CGI I feel like these robots came out of the 1970s. and thus are not as scary as they could have been. This movie tries to be everything from the Matrix to one of those young adult adventures but doesn't earn the emotional payoff the filmmakers are looking for. Thanks god they totally avoided most of the teen romance angle. It plays like one of those Asylum films and that is not a good thing.

It's not exactly 'Attack The Block' but that film was a classic.
