If You Have Never Read The Book, At Least Read The Article And Watch The Movies

It has sold millions of copies, is perhaps the greatest novel in the science-fiction canon and Star Wars wouldn’t have existed without it. Frank Herbert’s Dune should endure as a politically relevant fantasy from the Age of Aquarius.

You could also watch the movie or the most excellent 10 hour mini-series on scify that tells the story of the first three books in the series. A very young James McAvoy (young Professor X in X-Men)plays Leto II in Children of Dune.

The did a really good job. The material needs time to breath that can't really be captured in a two hour movie.
