Please - Not Don Rickles Too?

THIS one breaks my heart. I watched a lot of television in the 70s because I didn't sleep well and liked games shows and talk show. Don was often on late night TV doing his act as the greatest insult comic there ever was. He could insult all races and sizes and mental condition of a person and for some reason he had a gift for knowing what was funny and what went too far. I am sure he worked BLUE in his career but that was late night in Vegas.

One of another of my great childhood memories around Rickles when he would do one of Dean Martin's Celebrity Roasts. These were on about four times a year and it was MUST SEE TV. My Dad LOVED this kind of stuff and we would roar with laughter together as a family. Something rare that I could even share with my sister.

I am glad he lived long enough to see the great love and respect that all comedians had for him. There will never be another like him again in our PC world and that is a shame because his is Old School funny at it's BEST!

Legendary comic Don Rickles, a rapid-fire insulting machine who for six decades earned quite a living making fun of people of all creeds and colors and everyone from poor slobs to Frank Sinatra, has died. He was 90.

Rickles died Thursday at his home in Los Angeles of kidney failure, publicist Paul Schrifin announced.

Sarcastically nicknamed "Mr. Warmth," Rickles had mock disdain for stars, major public figures and all those who paid to see him, tweaking TV audiences and Las Vegas showroom crowds with his acerbic brand of takedown comedy. A good guy and devoted husband away from the stage, Rickles the performer heartlessly laid into everyone he encountered - and they loved it.

This one hurts. Grew up with him and all the others greats on TV. My family was a Tonite Show with Johnny Carson fan. Rickles was on a lot and it was always a scream. Got to see him in person twice. Once in Vegas about 20 yrs ago and once more here in Tucson at one of the casinos. Outside of his act he was a very kind and decent person.
A good long life and a job well done. Can't say more about anyone.

I hope Target the Insult Dog does a video tribute to him. He stole his whole shtick from Don Rickles. RIP. First Joan Rivers and now him. The world is a poorer place for venomous insults.

I agree. There was no one like Rickles. Triumph is the insult comic dog and the guy would works the puppet Robert Smiegel is very funny and quick. I hope he speaks at the funeral.
