The Expanse

Hands down one of the great science fiction shows I have ever seen and it surprises me that it's on SYFY. Not only does it have a fantastic, engaging story but it's full of interesting characters who have unexpected relationships with each other. It's very compelling I have grown very fond of the entire cast. I am almost done Season 2 and this is one to binge on. Smart science fiction always has a place in my heart. I love all the thought that has gone into creating a universe that is based on real world science of today and ties it to speculative science of the future. The production design is also very impressive. I love our team's ship The Rocinante is a great ship. Next to Serenity in coolness.

The story is great because it has a FOCUS. A team of misfits have been forced into a team as they search for the secrets behind an alien 'promolecule' that could represent the first sign of alien life. They are very pissed at the all the lose of life on several space stations as this "molecule' was being tested for use as a weapon. They will not stop before they destroy every piece of that 'molecule' in the entire Universe if they have to.

The 'molecule' is now on Ganymede one of the moons of Jupiter and it is evolving. There are strange things are happening on that moon. Things that could either save humanity or destroy it. The stakes are so high that the Earth, Mars and the Belters are all fighting each other for secrets when they should be working together. However, beside our team there is a politician on Earth who is trying to avoid the coming holocaust and save everyone. She is also one of the good guys.

Shohreh Aghdashloo plays Earth leader Chrisjen Avasarala and she is terrific whenever she is on screen. Aside from our TEAM in space there is a Martian soldier, a Gunnery Sgt, whose entire team was slaughtered. Once she learns they were just lambs to the slaughter she has had all the can take from the Martian military and goes rogue, requesting asylum on Earth where hopefully she and Avasarala will find us a way out of this crisis. She is played by Frankie Adams and she is a breath of fresh air. She is also one of the good ones and I like the way that this show champions ethnic diversity in their casting decision.

We are on episode 11 of season two and something happened that broke my heart. I hated that it happened but I have hopes that it's not the end of two great characters for good. Maybe they will come back in season three.

Two hundred years in the future, in a fully colonized solar system, police detective Josephus Miller (Thomas Jane), who was born in the asteroid belt, is given the assignment to find a missing young woman; Julie Mao (Florence Faivre). Meanwhile, James Holden (Steven Strait), the first officer of an ice freighter, is witness to an unprovoked attack upon the ship, by craft believed to be from Mars (MCRN Federation). As news of the attack spreads throughout the system, the incident's flow-on threatens to destabilize already tenuous relations between Earth, Mars and The Belt. Far away from the struggles in deep space, on Earth, Chrisjen Avasarala (Shohreh Aghdashloo), a powerful United Nations executive and diplomat, works to prevent war between Earth and Mars by any means. Soon, the 3 find out the missing woman and the ice freighter's fate are part of a vast covert conspiracy which threatens all humanity.
