Soft Landing

“Soft Landing” by Dan O'Bannon and Thomas Warkentin from Heavy Metal magazine, September 1979.

This sequence started the movie HEAVY METAL which was a theatre favorite back in the 80s. Yesterday Elon Musk sent his Tesla into space. Remind you of anything?

SpaceX's Starman mannequin is seen inside Elon Musk's red Tesla Roadster in space, with the brilliant Earth in frame, in this jaw-dropping view from a camera on the car. SpaceX launched the mannequin and Roadster into space on the first Falcon Heavy test flight on Feb. 6, 2018, then beamed back live views from the car.

Very cool. Nice to see something actually happen on this planet. It wasn't all talk. I saw it with my own eyes.

Yeah, he swiped "Don't Panic" from "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" too -- it was displayed on the car's console.

That's true. It's all very cool though they may have missed their chance to go into Mars Orbit so it might hit the astroid field instead. I hope it lives to be found by us one day in the future when we can travel far into space.
