My Favorite Book Of All Time - What Is Yours?

"The SPICE exists on only ONE planet in the entire Universe. A dry, desolate planet with vast deserts. Hidden away in the rocks of these desert are a people known as the Fremen who have long held a prophecy, that a man would come, a MESSIAH, who would lead them to true freedom. The planet is Arrakis...also known as DUNE."

My favourite book of all time? I don't think I could pick just one.

I agree, too many, but I read the Lord of the Rings when I was about 9 or 10, so I would put that right up there. Treasure Island ranks up there too. Dan Simmons' Hyperion series if we go a little later. I really think you would like that Cal. The first book 'Hyperion' is a corker. Same scale as Dune, just as unique and great.

Hmmm... either "The Godfather" by Mario Puzo or "Candide" by Voltaire. Strange to see those two books in the same sentence.

Godfather was very good. After Moby Dick the teacher said I couldn't read Godfather as me free read and I had a fit so he relented. Damn right he relented. I was OWED me some Don Corleone after that fucking whale bullshit.

DUNE - yes!

I’m a big fan of the dark tower series but at a third of the way in, Dune is shaping up nicely.

@DrGoat - Terrific books! I LOVE Hyperion & Fall of Hyperion (never made it thru the Endymion books though... should I?). Carrion Comfort (Nazi Vampires!) & Song of Kali are also good reads. If you are looking for fun quick reads, pick up any Christopher Moore book!
