Its been a long time since a movie trailer was so out of sync with the actual movie that I called 'shananigans'! Such was the case with 'Armored' This film is about a group of armored truck drivers who decide to steal the money they were hired to transport. From the trailer I was anticipating a fast paced action adventure where one member of the crew used his brains and bravery to save not only himself but to prevent the theft of the money when he decides he doesn't want to go along with the heist. I was expecting an intricate genius plan for the heist by the leader of the group. This was not the case. Even the poster is misleading by depicting a story where each criminal is working against the other. This is simply not the way the story is structured.
The majority of the film concerns itself with only a small part of the actual crime. We see no planning leading up to it. I would have liked to see what skills each of the robbers brought to the table. Also, instead of giving us bad guys to menace the hero we get characters who are his friends. This has the effect of throwing off our loyalties. They are a likable bunch and there are times we actually want to see the crime completed successfully. More disagreement within the group as a whole as the plan starts to go south would have lent alot of credibility to the film. Matt Dillon is simply too lightweight an actor to be believable as the leader.
The choices the filmmakers make are strange at times and they leave the whole exercise borderline unbelievable. For guys expecting a huge payday they sure do make some dumb rookie mistakes. This movie needed to make up its mind about what it wanted to be. Anytime you are dealing with armored cars and money you really have to play up the heist angle. You have to show the audience how they would get away with the crime. You at least have to show us why every single armored car ISN'T hijacked by their crews on a daily basis. You need to bring something fresh with a twist to the table. This movie failed on all those points.

That's disappointing (because I'm going to see this tonight; I didn't pick it), but not surprising. Going in with VERY low expectations.
That sucks. I hate when the trailers are edited to give you such a false impression of what's coming. OR when they give you all the funniest scenes/lines, so when you see the actual flick, you are left with 90% crap filling the spaces in between those few moments.

Having seen it now, I agree with all of your points. Thanks to my VERY low expectations, I was able to enjoy it, but it's ultimately very forgettable.
Like you said, it could have been great had it been a heist movie, but it's not. It's just a weak thriller about a not-too-bright guy who gets mixed up with some pretty dumb crooks.
