Now I Feel Awkward

Today was the first day in a couple weeks that I have checked my mail. I am touched by all the concern about my well being, I really am. But there was no need to worry. If I had died or was struck down by some debilitating disease, you would of all got the message sooner. I have made contingency plans if the worst case scenario occurs.

I should have said something before I left but everything was last minute.

I had the opportunity to go out to the cabin at Sylvan Lake and just get away from everything. No Internet...no satellite TV - not even a radio. I took my laptop and pounded out a first draft of the novel I have had rattling around in my head for so long. Now of course I have the endless edit to do but I figured that if the published writers who visit my blog could do it then so could I. It was mission one of my new life since Oprah gave me that kick in the pants.

I expect to be back posting at the 'Cave of Cool' by the weekend. Thank you for your patience and especially your concern. It was nice to come home after being by myself and feel the love.

Glad you are okay and that it was nothing worrisome!

Hope you enjoyed the time away and good luck with the editing!

You feel awkward? What am I gonna do with this awesome obituary I've been writing? It was heartfelt and touching and now you've gone a rained an my parade.

Congrats on the first draft. There's nothing like the excitement of having pulled it off. Revisions can wait. For now just enjoy the feeling of having accomplished it.

Glad you're back.

That's it? Camping? That's pretty lame, Cal. I expected, at the VERY LEAST, a thrilling tale involving a solo crossing of the Atlantic, attacks by cephalopods, mermaids who look like Selena Gomez, and talking cats.

Camping. Sheesh. Kids these days....

Looking forward to reading The Great Canadian Novel some day when it's published!

Hey, glad you're okay. Cabin sounds awesome! I'm heading for the Kootenays this Sunday myself. And good for you on the novel!

Oh, and come down to the Expo this weekend. It'll be cool.

Don't you run off again young man! There are strangers out there with candy!

Glad to have you back. Also glad to hear you've been scribbling. A noble pursuit...

That sounded like a much needed get-away. Glad to hear you did some writing too. Hopefully you will be able to unleash it to the world someday. I'd love to read it.

*whew* YEA! Glad you're ok.

Cabin solitude....the BEST!

LOL @ Jacquandor.

Very happy to heart about the writing.

Wow, that sounds amazing Kal. Getting away from it all is actually harder than it sounds, considering how attached we are to our technology these days.

So, glad you're ok, and unlike Jaquandor, I thought your reason for disappearing turned out to be pretty cool haha. Keep it up! =)

I just assumed you were by Selena's bedside nursing her back to health.

Happy you're back and our concerns were thankfully unfounded. Really missed you. Getting away like that can really do the soul a lot of good. Keep writing!
PS. I'd like to sneak a peek at that obit. M.D. was working on.

Super glad to have you back and glad you go to enjoy some of nature's beauty.

What's your novel about, or is it too early to share any details yet?

How do we know this is really Kal and not some diversionary tactic being played out by a tentacled fiend?

Yay! All good news!

MD - You of course realize that since you brought up the subject of my obiturary you must now produce said document. I should have realized that as such an important historical character that there would be a constant need to update my obit - to keep things current - you understand.

News organizations need that information so that they are ready to go at a moments notice when the news of my demise is once AGAIN declared with certitude. (It's East Berlin 1977 all over again)

chunky B - Having the Cephalopod attempt to replace me with a cloned doppelganger is the shit they tried to pull back when I was in elementary school. There are so many simple ways to get around that scheme it's embarrassing. Like having me repeat the secret password which for the month of June is 'tippy toe'.

Sarah - The novel and it's story is a closely guarded secret - but let me ensure you that it is awesome - and there are polar bears but they can't talk or don't wear bear armor - they are just who nature made them to be - the top carnivore on the arctic food chain.

Budd - The best thing I could do for Selena is basically repeat to the Bieber on the phone the same thing she has told him many times - "If you fuck up this opportunity you have been given then the angels will weep for you." I added that I would be actively waiting for his self destruction and that after that happened I would be forced to have great joy and rub his nose in his failure at every opportunity.

Jaquandor - You realize I am not at the liberty to discuss mission specifics with anyone. A leaky boat? Navigating through 40 meters seas while being pursued by a legion of the stinkin' bulbheads? All the while trying to keep the mermaid princess alive long enough for me to return her to her people? Don't forget about a cat who suddenly turns into Captain Blye whenever he gets near a boat - please, that is too ridiculous a yarn for even me to spin.

Good to see you back, Cal, and I'm glad you had a chance to recharge your batteries.

You're my hero. It's official now.

I've had a book idea bouncing around in my head for about eight years and I've never even started it because I'm always busy doing something else. I guess I never make it a priority. How pathetic. I should be writing the damn thing! Why the hell haven't I been writing it?!

Kal, I think YOU may have just given me the same kick in the pants that Oprah gave you. Thank you. And I wish you all the very best of luck on your book, my friend. I can NOT wait to read it!
