I'm more excited about his confirmed role in "Star Trek 2"

I hope he is a fresh character and not a retread of Khan. He is good at playing a bastard. His DOCTOR would be extra cranky I think. He's all over the place these days. Just watched him in 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy'.

You're preaching to the choir as far as wanting a new take on Khan.

Speaking of the Wrath of Khan that reminds me of another Nicholas Meyer directed movie, "Time After Time" were HG Wells (Malcolm McDowell) uses time travel to track down Jack the Ripper (David Warner) in the future of the 20th Century. A good movie, with a gag of Wells trying to use "Sherlock Holmes" as an alias.

Then again Sherlock Holmes himself is no stranger to time travel:

'Time After Time' was a great movie. I remember seeing it in the theatre. It was the way to do time travel right with a cool twist near the end.

And can we agree that that cartoon theme song is just terrible?

Its one of those songs I classify as "irritatingly catchy". Like Lulu's song from "Man with the Golden Gun" or any number of pop songs, you know its terrible and yet it sticks to your brain and never leaves.

If I can't get the line 'Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century' out of my head I am going to kill myself.

And we're back to Calvin's Head Exploding. Well at least we went full circle.

Cumberbatch is also...wait for it...Smaug in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit (both voice and motion-capture), although I don't think we'll see the dragon until the second movie.

My friend was wondering if we could come up with any other examples of a pair of actors appearing onscreen as two distinct famous literary pairs (like Martin Freeman/Benedict Cumberbatch as Holmes/Watson and as Bilbo/Smaug). We couldn't.

I think Cumberbatch would make a great Doctor. Unfortunately, he doesn't...

I've read a couple of interviews where he's been asked about the possible role and he's given a very definite "no" as an answer. Shame.

He seems to be hiting his stride as an actor right now. It exciting to see someone new.

I am trying to like "Sherlock"
but just don't have a good Doctor vibe from him. As I see more of his stuff I will give it more thought.

I haven't watched a lot of the older Holmes' stuff in years so it fit my needs.

Have you seen 'Luther' - a terrific British cop drama.

Love this guy as Sherlock and I know he will make a fantastic bad guy.

Luther is on my list spun up on dvd for my 3-4 day hospital visit. I have decided that 11 should regenerate back into 10. Since David Tennant is still my fav. I would also like to see 9 again since he had too short a run.

Hope it isn't anything too serious with your hospital visit. I like Tennant too but Christopher will always be my fav since he re-introduced me to the show and brought the magnificent Rose Tyler to my attention.
