For Only The Second Time In My Life...

I refused to finish a movie I had started to watch because it just infuriated me with it's lameness. Several years ago I walked out of Space Balls because it was horrendous and unwatchable.

Yesterday I had the exact same feeling watching Men In Black III.  After I suffered for about an hour waiting for James Brolin to do his Tommy Lee Jones impression, I was done. I don't think I will ever watch anything that Will Smith does from now on. I feel sorry for his kids because I have a suspicion my dislike for the parents will extend to the whole family in the future.

This space movie featuring father and son looks particularly crappy.

Well "After Earth" is an M Night Shyamalan joint (something they neglect to mention in the trailer) so thats cause to be at least suspect.

Every time I hear the title, I can't help but think of the 2000 Don Bluth flick "Titan: After Earth". Not a great movie, but was the script was doctored by Joss Whedon so you can see the seeds of "Firefly" in it.

I thought Men in Black 3 was "okay". Adequate, but nothing too fulfilling even with the "emotional" ending so I can't really say you're missing much.

I found the first one to have one of the worst climaxes ever - second one slightly better story - poorish ending. The franchise is about cool props. Ever the hit song is barley altered 70s track with no effort to alter. The young new lead in this has zero charisma and my memories all blur together with only one set and a some pretty guns shine through.

THere are plenty of movies that I stopped without finishing back when I was in college and movie check outs were free, and if a movie was slow I would usually stop because I only had the weekend to take a break from all my schoolwork and didn't want to waste my time.

Now that I have to pay for my movies again I usually sit through them because I feel I had to because I paid good money for them.

The only exceptions I can remember in recent memory were I started and just couldn't bring myself to finish was "Taxi Driver" and the original European "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". Both had what I considered to be unnerving and disturbing sexual content that I couldn't bring myself to stomach. Though got both with a free rental coupon so that made the decision to quit that much easier.

I always prided myself on my choice of movies to watch so I want to watch everthing to the end. I have seen OK movies that had great endings but usually I am more let down by a bad movie than I should because I refuse to bail before I should. I love movie magazines like Entertainment Weekly because they hip me to films that I may have missed out on and find that I loved like Take Shelter about the guy who dreams of a Tornado destroying his home town. Loved that movie. Walter Shannon from Boardwalk Empire is in that one.

It was eerie seeing Take Shelter and Premium Rush in such close proximity since both character played by Michael Shannon both have a mental disorder, one by good writing, the other by not so good writing. I hear he's going to be the new General Zod so it'll be a performance to behold alright.

You are right...it's Michael, not Walter. He would be a wicked General Zod.
