Johnny Depp does and does not seem the right fit for Doctor Strange but he could surprise me by taking the whole project seriously. Every time I see Keanu Reeves do Neo I think he could have been a cool Stephen Strange. But now I wouldn't hate flavor of the month Benedict Cumberbatch in the role. He's got the lean and lanky look that you need for the Master of the Mystic Arts. I don't know. Who would you cast? Remember you can't default and just say, "Go with an unknown."

Why not Sandra Bullock then?
All I ask is that they get the costume right.

Good question. If Vincent Price were still among the living, I would go with him (a bit younger Vincent). Gary Oldman might fit the bill. There is also a character actor named Mark Strong who is also in the running.
I've often heard that Patrick Dempsey (from "Grey's Anatomy") is a huge Dr. Strange fan, and has said he would love to play him. I could live with that.
PS, Remember Justified is on tonite.
Patrick Dempsey certainly could look the part.
I was going to throw in Patrick Dempsey as well with Viggo Mortensen as a second choice.
However, I think Marvel is going to want to cast much younger. After all Depp, Dempsey and Viggo are all in their 50s now.
I love me some Benedict Cumberbatch, but as far as casting him in a superhero movie, after seeing him play so many villains/anti heros, I'd like the chance to see him as the straight up hero. I think he'd be ideal for super genius Reed Richards in the Fantastic Four reboot.
I don't know anything about Dr. Strange, but if they cast Johnny Depp that movie will flop. Depp's movies never make money, except for the Pirates ones.
Really a hard call on this one but some one mention Gary Oldman who i think would do great but please no Johnny Depp!
I gotta say, George Clooney seems like a perfect fit for this role. Problem solved.
They need someone to really sell the original Ditko Strange, more than the Brunner or Colan Strange.
Yeh, someone that look a bit non heroic around all those buffed up super bodies. He needs to be lean like a scalpel but able to play arrogance. I like Clooney the more that I think about it...but let Clooney direct it like Branaugh directed Thor.

I knew that I would get you with Clooney.
Having just watched the latest POI I also gotta say that Jim Caviezel wouldn't be such a bad choice either. If he could act above his usual whisper he could totally own the part.
