Great Literature (?) Cheat Sheet

Anyone can find someone to explain the plot of any book that has ever been written so why read the books in the first place. 90% of what ever was considered great is actually crap and a slog to get through. Moby Dick is the worst offender of them all, of course. I got the point about five minutes in and I was INCENSED that there was a movie of this 'book' and I was only told that after I tossed the book across the classroom in disgust. I just couldn't read another word about the process of turning a whale in barrels of whale oil. The MINUTIA made me mental. I actually watch those Moby Dick analysis tapes on YOU TUBE and I learn NOTHING because there is NOTHING to learn. NOTHING. Even characters like Ahab could not make the story better and that is a bad sign because you put THAT guy in ANY sea story and you won't be able to look away. At least you shouldn't be able to look away. How does a novel let one of it's iconic characters down so badly? How about a little more character development and a little less MINUTIA about how to carve the fat off of a whale. I GOT THE POINT AFTER TWO SENTENCES. Five pages later I was suicidal.

That bit about 1984 is pretty accurate. Yeah, Gregory Peck did a much better job with Moby Dick than that book did. Never got through the book, needless to say.

Bless you for realizing it was garbage and being about to put it down. I had to still write a test without internet or coles notes or even a move to help me out. There were QUOTES we had to explain and analyse. It's was a freakin' nightmare. I TOLD him that I would be reading The Godfather as my choice novel and there was nothing he was allowed to say about that.
