Avatar Makes Me Sad?

This week has been one of the weirdest ever and its ONLY Tuesday. To prove my point I turn your attention to this little nugget...

"James Cameron's completely immersive spectacle "Avatar" may have been a little too real for some fans who say they have experienced depression and suicidal thoughts after seeing the film because they long to enjoy the beauty of the alien world Pandora."

I heard this same kind of stupidity when 'Titanic' came out. People who saw it over and over again because of the 'once-in-a-lifetime" special romance between the two lead characters. It was like they all wanted to be on a cruise, meet a poor but beautiful boy and then see him die in the icy cold North Atlantic so no other skank could steel him away from her and their love would be preserved in ice (like a package of pork chops) for all eternity. "GAH!"

I saw 'Avatar'. The only thing that depressed me was the cookie-cutter story that came with this piece of lovely eye candy. While my eyes were at the orgy my brain was trying to get it up and keep it up to no avail. That is what angers me. That is why I can't go back to my normal life. James Cameron screwed me again. It's not like he can't tell a good story (Terminator 2, Aliens). He just gets so in love with himself and his technical toys (Abyss) that he can't finish the race and carry a complete film over the finish line.

Of course nothing that I say will matter as this juggernaut of a movie races towards the two billion dollar box office. Does anyone else think this will not bode well for the film industry as a whole? Will studios ignore the small film in favor of the big blockbuster now that the technology has almost match the imagination? Or will things just continue as they always have before Avatar came along. Is it a 'game changer'?

Here's hoping that those poor souls who are hurting can find some comfort in all the 'Avatar' pornographic fan fiction out there. Again I say - "GAH!"

Avatar makes me sad too. What an empty, meaningless, spectacle. Haven't we learned yet that big, flashy, mindlessly expensive things don't really have any value?
Anyone who is saddened b/c Pandora is so beautiful needs to get out more and look around at our own planet.
