Finally My Town Is Perfect

I was out doing errands yesterday and saw something that is akin to a holiday miracle - my town is getting a FIVE GUYS BURGER franchise! I love nothing better than a good old giant sloppy cheeseburger like the ones you used to get at the Curling Rink. I hope they do onion rings as well as fries. This could actually push Wendy's off the top of my favorite burger list.

I was not the only one driving by the restraunt to see if it was open but that is still several weeks away. Good to have something to look forward to. Yes, I know it's FOOD but it's good food.

First opened in 1986, the menu is now offered in over three hundred locations and twenty five states. Why the success? Just when everyone thought there were enough Burger options? Here’s the reasons Five Guys Burgers and Fries say they been so widely accepted:

1. There are over 250,000 possible ways to order a burger at Five Guys.
2. They use only fresh, never frozen, ground beef.
3. There are no freezers in any Five Guys locations, just coolers. Never frozen.
4. They use only peanut oil.
5. They use only Idaho potatoes.
6. Their entire menu is trans-fat free.

Voted the Washingtonian Magazine’s “Reader’s Choice” #1 Burger for each year since 1999, Five Guys continues to collect awards and praises in every additional location.

Walk in and scoop up some fresh roasted in the shell peanuts, always free, while you place your order at the counter. Each separate order is placed in a paper bag. No confusion as to whose sandwich is whose. French fries are hot and crispy. If you are a lacto-vegetarian, their veggie sandwich and grilled cheese sandwiches are a musts! Choose the “veggie” toppings you like and add your choice of cheese for your perfect burger.
Once you visit, you might become a fanatic. How do you know if your a fanatic?

You might be a fanatic if:

1. You know all of the fifteen free toppings by heart.
2. Your heart skips a beat when you see a grease stained brown paper bag.
3. The sight of foil causes you to salivate.
4. Your hand is tired from drawing intense comment card pictures.
5. You “look up” when trying to order at fine dining establishments.

Plus it's the only burger joint that Brother Obama patronizes and that is good enough for me.

It sounds like a great place. I hope they get one in Kelowna. My husband will love it. I like grilled cheese, so that would be the first thing I would try. If Obama likes it, it must be good.

Won't that kind of food kill you? I thought you were diabetic Cal?

I do that kind of meal once a week and I am a almost CURED Type 2 diabetic. I think I can risk it. I have so few pleasures in my life. You would deny me one? That's cold my brother.

It's funny, Belle, how I was thinking the exact same thing as you about the grilled cheese sammiches. I want to get one of those now too. And a hot dog. And some free peanuts. OMG the peanut allergy people will go nuts.

Oh man! I am drooling... I thought there weren't any in my area, but I just looked it up. About two miles down the road lies heaven in a bun! I'm going as soon as I get home.

Well, at least you'll get to see 2012. Not sure about 2013. Remember, moderation!

Hey, I saw every damn day of 2011 so I am convinced that my suffering will continue for a long time to come. Plus NONE of us will see 2013 because we are going to wind up as chicken nuggets in some alien mall foodcourt.

These fine folks are expanding into my area as well...there's already one open, but it's in a section of town that I am almost NEVER in. There's another opening in the area's major shopping mall, which is closer, but still not a place I go much...the franchisees have talked about opening four or five area locations in the next year or two, and I have to assume one would be in my neck of the woods.

I would be interested in knowing why your opinion is of their grub. You are a committed foodie like me and you know the value of a good feed.

Sorry, Eat away. I don't think they have these in Ontario. Wait let me check. Holly Burgers there are 5 in a 50km radius of me.
I just started salivating. I have to....

Cal, we live in an area just lousy with fast food places. Been to 5 guys, and HOLY SHIT is that GOOD food. Order the single unless you are hungry enogh to eat a horse. The fries are so friggin' good too. Enjoy!
