Magazine Cover Of The Day

Lucy Liu in Watch Magazine’s October 2013

As much of a fan I am of the British series Sherlock I am frustrated by the fact that there aren't any new episodes to watch and there haven't been for some time. With the stars of that show in huge movies like The Hobbit and Star Trek Into Darkness, it was unlikely that they would come back often or at all to the roles of Sherlock and Watson.

Then there is Elementary. A never missed TV show that is much better than it has any right to be. A thinking procedural which most of the time hits the mark with interesting and often shocking storytelling and mysteries. It is, however, the relationship between Holmes and Joan Watson - Lucy Liu - that makes Elementary a winner. The ennui of both characters is exquisite and Johnny Lee Miller is possessed by the spirit of the famous detective. He makes all the right decisions as a performer. The tightrope dance he does is a delight to watch.

Sing it to me, Brother. It may be SHERLOCK's poor cousin, but with a meagre six episodes so far and only three more on the way, ELEMENTARY is what we're stuck with.

And it's not that bad despite Lucy Liu`s penchant for ridiculous shoes. And the season opener featured Sean Pertwee (son of third Doctor Jon Pertwee) as Lestrade and Rhys Ifans (The AMazing Spider Man) as Mycroft. Not too shabby.
