Going Clear (HBO)

Wow, just wow. This was one hypnotic documentary about Scientology. When you see all the parts put together you see the truth - the whole twisted truth. You learn what a nutcase that L. Ron Hubbard was and how dangerous the current leadership is.

I wondered as the documentary progressed and we learned more about how crazy Hubbard was, how anyone could follow Hubbard in the first place. He was creepy when he talked and I was distracted by the fact that he needed dental work.

And those goofy beliefs of his that makes Mormonism look like Judaism!! I am always amazed at the stuff that people will believe or convince themselves to believe. Where is the questioning? Where is the bullshit meter going off in one's head? Why can't I be fooled into that kind of blissful state.

The whole 'religion' is a scam. People pay to achieve 'levels'. The levels make no sense other than to make people spend more money to rise up the ranks. They hoped the higher they got the more 'superpowers' they would achieved. More and more secrets would be revealed if you could get high enough up the ladder. Then, at a certain level, the converted met Xenu and his a-bombs. Great stuff. Bullshit of the highest order. I can respect the guy who can come up with this foolishness but not the people who believe it.

"What the fuck is this?" - Paul Haggis after learning the church's 'origin' story.

Much of this stuff is not new to me but to hear the confessions of some of the highest ranking members of Scientology it all has a strong ring of truth. If any organization needs the disinfecting cleansing of sunlight then it's Scientology.

I"ve always believed the story that Ron and Rob bet on who could create a religion from scratch. I guess that Scientology won over Stranger. But really, it was all just a joke. Are you listening Tom?

Tom is too deep in to hear the truth.

Disinfecting by taxation at the very least. I'm with you, but I don't care what or who you believe in until your main #1 goal is tax exempt status.

As soon as I saw the "we won" party The feds should have popped up and went Just Kidding, no your are still a cult and here is the tax bill.

I know just how you feel. It would be so easy to shut this evil empire down. Just like Capone in the 30s.

When you get a chance, read up more on Jack Parsons, who was mentioned in the documentary. There was a book out years ago called "Love & Rockets" about his story, including the bit where Hubbard basically stole his girl. I'm sure you don't have to find Love & Rockets to read up on him, though, just Google him. It's incredible, though, that a guy so seminal to the US space progam was also so deeply into the occult!

Quit trying to understand most humans a long time ago. Delusional to the nth degree. It must be some sort of survival mechanism that we should have shed long ago but most didn't. Hubbard is indeed a creep, not worthy of your respect.
