Best Comic You Are Not Reading But Should Be - Irredeemable

What if the world's greatest hero suddenly became its greatest villain? That is the premise that Mark Waid throws at the reader in this terrific comic from BOOM Studios. Paragon was once his world's Superman until something happened that turned him away from the side of good. I like the fact that we don't automatically find out what that 'something' is. We just see the results of his transformation. Friends and allies find out he is no longer on their side as he decimates both the hero and villain communities. Those who try to reason with the hero find their pleas falling on deaf ears. This is the new reality people. The sooner you get with the program the better chance you have to live to see another day. Paragon's old teammates get together in an attempt to develop a strategy for combating him but they find themselves many steps behind and are forced to react just to stay alive. Its a terrific premise and in the hands of a master storyteller like Waid you get something rare in comics these days - surprises. Whenever I think I know where the story is going I am always thrown for a loop. That keeps me coming back month after month. If you like superhero comics then this is the one you should be downloading. (yeh I said it bitches - download the entire series from the start and we will debate the ethics another day)

Could not agree more. Always great when Waid cranks it up to 11.

I see Paragon has the same sixpack abs and hunky build whether he's good or bad. Pretty cynical. When I was a kid bad guys in comics were UGLY-- slobbering, decayed and with their physique generally going to hell.
