Always Struck Me Funny

Mayor: Drebin, I don’t want any more trouble like you had last year on the southside. Understand? That’s my policy.

Frank: Yes. Well, when I see 5 weirdos dressed in togas stabbing a guy in the middle of the park in full view of 100 people, I shoot the bastards. That’s my policy.

Mayor: That was a Shakespeare in the Park production of Julius Caesar, you moron! You killed 5 actors! Good ones!

Funny stuff! Obviously a riff on this dialogue from Dirty Harry:

Harry Callahan: Well, when an adult male is chasing a female with intent to commit rape, I shoot the bastard. That's my policy.
The Mayor: Intent? How did you establish that?
Harry Callahan: When a naked man is chasing a woman through an alley with a butcher's knife and a hard-on, I figure he isn't out collecting for the Red Cross!
[walks out of the room]
The Mayor: He's got a point.

Frank: It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girl dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.

Jane: Goodyear?

Frank: No, the worst.

And not just actors, but GOOD ones!

The short-lived show and (most) of the movies are infinitely quotable!

It was even funnier when I found out he was doing a riff on Dirty Harry. Though I do remember the original Naked Gun quite fondly.

While The Naked Gun has its moments, it's Police Squad where Drebin shines.
