Cool Sculpture

Ron Garrigues is an important Bay Area sculptor who made his first sculpture 52 years ago. He became well know after his first solo show at the Legion of Honor in 1961 and has continued to be an influential part of the San Francisco art scene. His bronze sculptures are provocative, controversial, and beautifully crafted. The work speaks to the dichotomy of the natural environment and humanity’s destructive mark. His work has continued to be relevant throughout the years and this exhibition is no exception. His retrospective collection is currently on display at Varnish Fine Art and can be seen through March 31st.

I'm usually not a big fan of skull imagery, but I like these ones!

I just want to run my hands over them.

Yeah. Just think of the work it takes to produce one of those.

He's sculpted the skulls of cartoon characters, which, don't get me wrong, is a cool thing, but honestly do these art galleries have to hyperventilate over everything and make it seem like these artists are reinventing the wheel?

It's all about the hype.
