Mysterious Island 2

First of all, where is Dwayne Johnson's Oscar. He's got more charisma per square inch on his body than any ten of your regular movie star. He is fun every second he on camera

The script is totally ridiculous. A kid breaks into a top secret government facility, doesn't get arrested and ends up riding a bee on the Mysterious Island. If you don't let silly story points like that bother you then you and the little ones beside you will like this movie.

This is at the level of a six year old.

Where does the kid get all the money to travel across the world?

Way to be a bad parent Dwayne, by taking the kid half way around the world?

The 'fish out of water' sequences work very well as does the always reliable Louis Guzman as the grubbiest and least resource full Captain you have ever seen.

Vanessa takes off her hat and all of them risk their lives because she is cute....and she is cute...deadly cute. Another Selena Gomez in looks and style and that made the movie twice as fun for me.

Of course, the helicopter Guzman pilots crashed on the 'Mysterious Island' after a storm and they all go on a big time adventure before a volcano kills them all and sinks the 'Mysterious Island'.

The kid keeps saying, 'believe in Verne' like one would say 'believe in God'. It was cool to see science serving as god in this one.

Of course the map and the Ukulele survive the helicopter crash on the eerie mysterious island.

You have seen this collection of characters a thousand times before. This is Sunday Matinee movie making at its best and for what it is, I had fun. Maybe I woke up in a good mood. The lizard egg scene was a blast. Like all the other escapes, it's done is a bloodless way. There is no real danger here despite the apparent danger on screen.

Michael Caine is still Michael Caine but he is having fun with the vacation. The scenery is pretty as are the effects. I even enjoyed the banter between Caine and Johnson.

Why do young girls also have to act so heroic all the time - to prove they are as good as the boys. Vanessa DID get squeels of delght whenever she was on screen and they weren't all coming just from me. Just some bugs she says. Just a giant spider, I say.

The Rock singing - 'Wonderful World' was a highlight for me. That's what turns a star into a superstar.

Everyone has knowledge they shouldn't have that conveniently helps them at just the right moment.I miss simple movies like this. They so remind me of a time when I went to the great movies they showed at the base theatre.

It was goofy and could have used 50 re-writes but boy what a fun time. Everything worked out just like you thought it would and that made for a safe time at the movies for you and your whole family. Safe and inoffensive.

7/10

And I saw the Rock live back in his debut at Madison Square Garden in 1996. Never would have thought he had anything to do what he is doing today!

Give him credit. Turned his skills into something he could succeed at.
