To Serve Ham

A rodent-eating snake and a hamster have developed an unusual bond at a zoo in Tokyo, Japan. Their relationship began when zookeepers presented the hamster to the snake as a meal.

However, the rat snake (named Aochan) refused to eat the rodent. The two now share a cage, and the hamster sometimes falls asleep sitting on top of his natural foe. Zookeepers have since named the hamster ‘Gohan’ – the Japanese word for meal.

Does anyone think that this snake isn't just fattening up the hamster for a much bigger meal down the line? When I was in college a huge constrictor got out of his hallway cage and was crawling around in the roof of the college for weeks -until he got hungry enough to drop down in a full classroom. Must have been the smell of all the morning coffee and donuts that attracted him. At that point a third smell was added to the room as everyone collectively shit their pant.

Isnt that just cruel and unusual mental torture of the Hamster?

You assume that the hamster knows he is lunch meat. In my experience they really aren't that bright.

The snake is using the hamster as a living heater. I do the same thing with my kids when it gets cold. "hey girls, come sit beside me."
