What Was The Deal With This Guy?

Did he work with Fred at the Quarry or was that an entirely different caveman character? I once saw part of a story where Ally-Opp came to the future and wore a suit. It reminded me to much of the 'Frozen Caveman Lawyer' sketch that the brilliant Phil Hartman would do on SNL.

No idea. But I never liked the comic and never understood the purpose of it.

I remember one summer I read it in my local paper just to figure it out and never did. Ended up disliking it even more.

It's actually one of my all-time favorite strips. Originally it made amusing commentary on then-modern society by translating into caveman terms but when all that was played out, creator VT Hamlin invented the time machine which brought Oop and his girlfriend to the (then) modern day. They caught on quickly to modern ways (particularly cigars) and had serialized, semi-serious adventures in the present. Using the time machine, they also had adventures in Ancient Rome (the best one), Outer Space, The Old West, etc. as well as the scientists occasionally visiting Oop's caveman society. It was ultimately a surprisingly rich and complex strip under Hamlin which continued for some time under his replacement Dave Graue.

I remember Alley Oop from the 50s-60s growing up. An enigmatic character, but I liked the strip. It was part of my childhood, so I remember it kind of fondly.

That's one mean looking Dino the Dinosaur.

The reason I ask is that I found one of his treasuries and found the whole story to be incomprehensible.

Dino was a seriously kickass dinosaur. And that was a cool song.
