He Is Groot

The genius of the newest incarnation of The Gaurdians of The Galaxy is that it includes GROOT, ruler of his own planet of tree people. He is much more chatty on the old Marvel monster cover but today the only words he can say are "I AM GROOT", which he exclaims at every opportunity to anyone who does or doesn't want to hear it. It's a great running joke in the series.

As a giant tree, he can be destroyed easily but with only a tiny remaining sappling he will quickly grow back to his full glory. Rocket Racoon is his best buddy and how can you resist such a great comedy team? To have one without the other is wrong and I hope the creators behind the propsed Gaurdians of the Galaxy movie remember to not leave out the talking tree guy.

Well Groot was featured as a Guardian in an episode of Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes that aired the same week as the premiere of the Avengers movie, something I doubt is a coincidence given Thanos' appearance during the end of the later. It think its safe to say that Marvel's answer to Treebeard will be involved.

It was officially announced this morning that James Gunn will direct the Guaradians of the Galaxy movie. Given his affinity for brown CGI anthropomorphized creatures as seen in his 2002 magum opus "Scooby-Doo", I doubt he would discard Groot.

I've never heard of Groot before this but now I love him. I also love that faceless tiny guy in the corner of that cover who dares defy him. You go, Corner Guy!

There's that DC Comics demon named Baytor who only ever says "I AM BAYTOR!" They should hang out.
