I Really Wanted To Hate This
The idea of an Americanized version of Sherlock Holmes looked doomed to failure from the beginning. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked the premiere of Elementary. Johnny Lee Miller did a good job in a role that held up in comparison to the great Benedict Cumberbatch and you know that is no easy feat if you have seen Sherlock. I thought that having a female Watson would add a romantic element to the story that didn't need to be added but I really like the relationship between these two damaged characters. They are kindred spirits who complete each other because they understand each other's pain. Any show that is dripping with that kind of ennui is irresistible to me. The creators changed just enough of the classic story to make it interesting without alienating true fans of the great detective. There is a lot of potential here if the pilot is any indication of what we can expect from this series. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

You're made of braver stuff than I am for watching this show. Every ounce of my being is telling me to reject it based on what little I know about it. You're recommendation makes a huge difference, though. Perhaps I'll give it a chance after all...
No one is more surprised that I liked this than me. It fills my fix for Holmes before Sherlock puts out another couple of episodes.
