New To The Collection Of Cool
While Batman arguably has the greatest group of enemies, my favorite group of bad guys have always been Flash's Rogues Gallery - Mirror Master, Weather Wizard, Heat Wave, The Trickster, The Piper ect... Each character stuck closely to their means of operation and weaponry even though none of them was ever able to defeat the Flash - even when they teamed up together.
Captain Cold was always so easy for me to understand. He robbed banks and used a freeze gun. He never changed his look or his attitude and we only learned very recently that he had a sister who was a murder victim.
Was it necessary to give him a different motivation for his crimes? I don't think so. I don't want to feel sympathetic for the bad guy. I want him to have his genius plan foiled by the hero at the last minute and then move one. Something that aren't broke don't need to be fixed.
This is one of the many reasons why I have read next to none of the latest NEW 52 books from DC COMICS. Everything we know about most characters has been modified or ret-conned and I am not into those kind of stories. When you flush away decades of continuity you also take away what made many of these characters so much fun in the first place.
I also loved how no one ever thought to explain to me WHY Captain Cold has to wear his parka with full hood at all time? It's not like Mr Freeze who will die if his body temperature rises. Capt. Cold wore a costume to go with his deadly freeze gun, regardless of the outdoor temperature.
