The painting to their back on the left is An Experiment on a Bird in the Air Pump by Joseph Wright of Derby. It is a candlelit scene depicting a bird under glass were an air pump is used to deprive it of oxygen so that it suffered in front of a crowd before "miraculously" being return to life for a round of applause.

I wonder if this painting is featured here in order to show the cycle of entertainment, watching our protagonist suffer before making a triumphant if inexplicable return for our pleasure or if it is meant as a means of showing the exploitation of man during the rapid changes in technology.

I've often wondered about the choice of the painting "The Swing" in Jeff Lebowski's office as well.

I know that nothing is a movie is ever accidental - especially in these kind of high stake tentpole movies. I read nothing but great things about this. Friday afternoon in 3D is the only place for me.

In IMAX for me. That or Lincon depending on my mood on a rare free day.

Spoiler Alert - Lincoln doesn't see the end of the play.

I just saw that "Q" actor in "Cloud Atlas." He was great!

Erik, given that in the trailer Bond quips that his hobby is "resurrection", it would seem that the choice of painting was deliberate. Someone was being a clever boots.
