Captain Canuck Returns On Canada Day

Iconic cult comic book hero Captain Canuck is appearing in a brand new five-part web series that will debut with the big screen treatment at Silver Snail comic shop in Toronto on, of course, Canada Day. Fans will be able to watch the first episode of the series with members of the cast at the renowned comic store’s Yonge Street location on Monday July 1 at 7 p.m.

The proudly Canadian, crowdfunded web series is a modernized reboot of the original 1970s comic books created by Richard Comely and Ron Leishman. There were later revivals of the character through the decades with three different men donning the mask and mantle of Captain Canuck, but the original series followed the exploits of Tom Evans, a Canadian secret agent who gained superhuman strength from an encounter with aliens.

Captain Canuck took place in the then-future of 1993 in a world where Canada had become the world’s preeminent super power, and the Captain its most important weapon in maintaining global security. Canuck typically faced off against his archenemy Mr. Gold, a wealthy industrialist bent on world domination.

One of Captain Canuck's mortal enemies, Blue Fox is a deadly mercenary and assassin. Fox often works for Mr. Gold, the Captain's archenemy. On the upcoming web series, Blue Fox is voiced by Toronto actress Laura Vandervoort, but who should play her in a live action version of the show?

Mr. Gold is the billionaire industrialist whose plans for world domination put him directly in opposition to Captain Canuck. While masking his true goals from the public behind an illusion of public relations trickery and jetsetting façade, Gold works to seed chaos throughout the world and sees the technology behind Captain Canuck's abilities as a way to achieve his machinations.

Yay Captain Canuck!

I'd forgotten how prophetic that comic book was!

I think Donald Sutherland should play Mr. Gold. He'd be perfect.
