Do You Remember?

I love these two pictures of Leia. That got me thinking about the novel and comic adaptation of the story 'Splinter In The Mind's Eye'. I remember that paperback as the first new part of what would be the huge Star Wars Universe that came out since the original movie.

Splinter of the Mind's Eye is a 1978 science fiction novel written by Alan Dean Foster. It takes place between Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Originally published in 1978 by Del Rey, a division of Ballantine Books, it was the first original full-length Star Wars novel to be published after the release of the 1977 Star Wars film, retroactively making it one of the earliest Expanded Universe works.

The principal characters are Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, C-3PO, R2-D2, and Darth Vader. The characters of Han Solo and Chewbacca do not appear, and Solo is only referred to by Luke Skywalker as "a pirate and a smuggler" that he knows at the end of the book.

The book was originally written to be filmed as a low-budget sequel to Star Wars if the original film was not a success.

I would have loved to have seen Leia in a fighter pilot uniform, and I know I'm not the only one to think so.

Maybe we'll get more of an "action girl" in the sequels.

I've seen this painting of Luke and Leia in the swamp before too. Its easy to imagine how Han and Chewy would be absent in any sequels, just based on what was on the page of the original script, thankfully they did come back.

Though speaking of Leia's costuming, I've always wondered about her outfit towards the end of "Return of the Jedi". When she arrives on Endor she has a military camo uniform with that tire track helmet. However when see meets up with the others in the Ewok village she is wearing a long earth tone dress.

Poor Leia, no matter were she goes aliens what to get her to change her clothes. Personally I'm more concerned about were these little teddy bears got a dress that fits a woman her size. I think whoever wore that dress before met the same fate as those stormtroopers that they're playing bogos on their helmets at the very end.

Ah, Splinter of the Minds Eye, before Leia was Luke's sister.

I remember reading Splinter when it came out.., it was a pretty good book, especially right after the movie first hit.

GREAT art of Leia, Erik, will use as wallpaper. I loved Han/Peter's comments to Leia/Lois in Family Guy's 'Its a Trap', about her on the Endor. Something about those Ewoks 'couldn't master basic weapons skills, but could braid her hair..'

Priceless.
