Author Tom Clancy, whose novel, "The Hunt for Red October" propelled him to fame, fortune and status as a favorite storyteller of the American military, has died, according to sources with his publisher and family. He was 66.
The Hunt For Red October was my father's favorite movie and was one of the first times I saw him so excited to see a motion picture made from a book he read. We bought him the hardcover when it first came out. From then on he loved all of Clancy's books and the excellent movies made from them.
Clancy was a genius at bringing the military jargon and real life scenerios right into the stories. I thank him for all the joy he brought to an aging soldier who no doubt imagined himself to be on that Russian sub and saving the world.

His last few efforts (with co-author) have been somewhat "phoned in" but still one of the best. Jack Ryan and John Clark are two of the best characters in fiction.
2013 has been a bad year, losing a lot of great ones.
As we do every other week. Then you see who is coming up behind them and it makes you shudder.
