Rogue One - A Star Wars Story

 

Whomever thought that a Stars Wars movie without Jedi would be so damn exciting but there you have it. Rogue One is the franchise movie that I have been waiting for since I saw the first Star Wars trilogy back in the day. I loved all the fresh characters set in a Universe that is perfect in tone and style and feels organically a part of the rest of the Extended Star Wars Universe.

I especially loved the way they brought back Peter Cushing as Grand Moff Tarkin. The CGI effect is seamless and it was eerie the way they fooled me into thinking they had brought the actor back to life.

I loved that this movie is a one off that will not be expanded into a trilogy that will take me 5 years to fully enjoy. It was one and done and filled a great chapter in the great Star Wars story. The tale of how the Rebellion got the vital plans to destroy the Death Star is a key story that needed to be told to fill out the larger epic.

All the actors are fantastic with Felicity Jones leading the mission that will motivate and change all those around her.

 

 

I found the whole thing thrilling. For someone who knows a lot about Star Wars, I learned new things and that was exciting. It's the best of Lucas combined with the best creators who grew up with an obvious love for the source material. Everything is there, the spaceships, the sarcastic robots, the strange and often dangerous world - everything that makes Star Wars great.

I enjoyed the way the mission was sorta done on the fly. Every challenge had to be overcome with bravery and ingenuity and a little of the Force luck which the movie wisely doesn't let us forget about.

The arrival of old friend Darth Vader does not disappoint. He cuts a mean figure that strikes fear in everyone who encounters him.

There is a great battle in space and on land as the rebels give our team their shot at finding the information they need to destroy the Death Star. Even though we already know the future it's still thrilling to watch the story unfold.
