There was nothing better as a kid in school (or a teacher in fact) than when the monthly book order flyer came out from Scholastic Books. I never missed a chance to order something related to Crytozoology so I could continue educating myself about the Yeti, or the Lock Ness Monster, or Chupacabra or the evil Kraken. I was so glad to hear from my mole inside Jr High, Nicole, that the tradition continues. She sent me a link to the latest list and of course I saw something that I had to order immediately.
"Desperate for knowledge about his mysterious father and determined to finish his quest, Tom heads west, where Zepha the Giant Squid threatens the seas. But his arrival brings back memories of his encounter with Sepron the Sea Serpent, an encounter he barely had survived."
or this one
"After the tragic death of their father, Emily and Navin move with their mother to the home of her deceased great-grandfather, but the strange house proves to be dangerous. Before long, a sinister creature lures the kids´ mom through a door in the basement. Em and Navin, desperate not to lose her, follow her into an underground world inhabited by demons, robots, and talking animals. Eventually, they enlist the help of a small mechanical rabbit named Miskit. Together with Miskit, they face the most terrifying monster of all, and Em finally has the chance to save someone she loves."
Now I know some of you would be treating me like Obama when he talked to the kids this week if I bought these books to be used in the classroom. You feared he would be trying to indoctrinate the kids into his 'socialist' way of thinking. I wonder if you would feel the same about me choosing the following books for novel study since both advance my agenda against the evil that is the cephalopod. Do you want your kids thinking that the eight tentacles terrors are all soft and cuddly or do you want them to know the truth? Plus they will be improving their reading ability. What parent could hate that, right?
