WTF? That doesn't even make sense. The Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere are raising the average temperature not decreasing it.
The only thing that we humans can do to cause an ice age is to do something stupid like fixing the effects like blocking solar thermal radiation. Instead of trying to stop the cause burning fossil fuels and cows farting. Yes I said it cows farting.

Nomad, it does make sense in an odd way when you hear the whole story as proposed in the film. The idea is a slight increase in temp from global warming leads to more moisture in the air. That moisture then travels to colder areas and condenses and snows. Snows feeds ices and glaciers starting a cycle. Now of course it would have to be JUST ENOUGH to raise the temps just enough to get just enough moisture up there without being so much as too cause all the ice to melt.

It makes just about as much sense as any of Al Gore's crazy predictions.

can't wait to see the mini series, especially since it's British and it involves ice, lots of ice, oh, how I love me some ice!

I love these disaster movies too. An all British cast just adds gravitas to the whole situation. When a guy with an accent tells you it's all going to shit, you pay attention. Plus you know with all this snow and cold that Canadians will eventually rule the world because we have all the mittens.

and plus you have the cozy caves :)

We do...we really do.

Earths climate doesn't work like that unfortunately. Water vapour doesn't turn into snow just because it crosses the arctic circle. Nor will it make the climate get cooler. The heat has to go somewhere. Now if they are talking about dust particles in the air (i.e. volcanoes/stupid humans) than yes it will get cooler. The solar radiation will be blocked or reflected back into space instead of being trapped in the atmosphere.

I have heard of 'Global Dimming' which is a theory that less sunlight is hitting the Earth than has penetrated the atmosphere in the past. Less Sunlight can mean less heating of the Earth and thus colder temperatures. Canada will always get cold and snow and the Equator will always be hot. It's the space in-between the two that will experience all the funky weather patterns we have seen lately like the East Coast blizzards of last winter and this fall's superstorm in the midwest.
