Again With The 'Hawthorne'

This show has quickly gotten under my skin for the simple reason that I can't tell if they are serious or if this program is all one big joke.

I have mentioned before how cool Marc Anthony (?! YEH, I know - I actually used the words 'cool' and 'Marc Anthony' in the same sentence) is as Detective Renata. He loves head nurse Jada Pinkett-Smith so much that he killed the guy who attacked her in the parking lot of the hospital - an attack that killed the baby she was growing inside her. The attacker was the husband of an abused wife that Christina convinced to leave him. Are you with me still?

So it seems this Detective Renata has a mother who is old school and afraid of hospitals so he calls his friend Christina (Jada) to help him out. That gets both of them together in the hospital when it's announced that the person who attacked Christina has been found dead. She knows Renata did the deed. He all but admitted it to her.

How did they know who it was that attacked her? That fact was never mentioned.

Then she gets fired. How heartless is this hospital after their head nurse, who was attacked in their own parking lot, also loses her job. In the real world she would sue their asses.

Detective Renata did kill Christina's attacker and produced the attacker's ruby ring to confirm it to her. Christina has the ring which is one of the few pieces of evidence linking her and her detective friend to the dead body. Why doesn't she get rid of it?

If Marc Anthony's character is such a bad ass super cop, then why would he even let the body be found? Or at least stage a better crime scene that doesn't immediately bring the entire force of the rat squad down on the detective's head. It's all so amateurish.

And if you didn't get that there was tension between Christina's husband and the detective, the ominous organ music would help you get the point.

Plus one of the foreign doctors has a criminal father with a thick cockney accent (Ben Cross) shows up and finds out that he is going to die from cancer. Does anyone actually practice medicine around here or is it all family drama?
