I Am Offended

I have been reading that today is National Pancake Day. That is a lie. Shrov Tuesday or Fat Tuesday is the only National celebration of the pancake that I accept. What kind of punk organization jumps the party by one week to bring attention to the pancake - something we will celebrate in 7 days anyways?

IHOP that's who. They even offered a free stack today and used the whole event as a way to raise money for charity. But why not do it next Tuesday? Tie the whole thing in with Mardi Gras and Lent and the various pancake appreciation organizations out there?

I am confused. Can't all the pancakes get together and unite behind one delicious syrup covered banner?

Pancakes are traditionally eaten the day before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Eating pancakes just before the forty-day-long Christian observance is popular because pancakes are made of ingredients that are usually restricted during the days leading up to Easter--eggs, butter, milk, etc.

Christians also call National Pancake Day Shrove Tuesday for the past tense of the old English verb shrive, the word for the ritual release given to Christians who confessed their sins, as explained by the Belfast Telegraph. Mardis Gras, the name for the holiday in New Orleans, is French for Fat Tuesday.

IHOP, however, does not have any religious affiliation.
