SCANDAL!! J'ACCUSE!!

Anne of Green Gables, the orphan with the "very thick, decidedly red hair" and the "much freckled" face, has become a blonde, buxom farm girl with come-hither eyes on a new edition of LM Montgomery's classic novel, prompting a fierce reaction from fans of the story.

The ire over Anne's transformation has reached such heights online that the edition now appears to have been withdrawn. Containing the first three "Anne" stories, Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea and Anne of The Island, it was self-published through Amazon's CreateSpace platform at the end of November, and its one-star reviews now number over 300.

"This book is supposed to be Anne Of Green Gables NOT Anne Does Green Gables! " wrote one reader. Another pointed out that "Anne has red hair. RED HAIR. It's a key part of her character and is a strong influence on her words and actions. Secondly, Anne is 10 at the start of the series. What is up with the bedroom eyes? Did they just do a Google image search for Sexy Farmgirl? Does anyone publishing this book have any idea of what the stories are actually about?" setting up a plea to "keep Anne ginger".

There is also a new mini-series in the works on the CBC and they have cast Hannah Endicott-Douglas as Young Anne Shirley in Anne of Green Gables: A New Beginning. Anne's look is as important to the story as the Prince Edward Island setting. Notice the look of the girl they cast for this most iconic of Canadian stories on our most iconic television network. You would think those people would know what Anne MUST look like and obviously they do. Her look makes her a visible ginger outcast and contributes to her entire personality, especially in the way she relates to the people around her.

“Our lofty goal is to tell the stories, channeling Kate, that Lucy Maud Montgomery would tell in the present day,” said Joan Lambur, an executive producer at Breakthrough. “She was clearly ahead of her time in telling a story about a female hero who is not afraid to be loud and bold at a time when girls were expected to be the opposite.”

The new series was officially announced on Monday at the Banff World Media Festival. The 13-part miniseries is expected to be the first time that all eight Anne books will be used as a narrative base for a show.

J'ACCUSE!

Wha?... Anne as a blonde Huh? I just don't get how something like this even happened. This is "Anne of Green Gables" not "Daisy Duke's Dirty Diary". Anne has to be called "Carrots" so that this can occur:

I remember when I was in middle school we read "Keeper of the Isis Light" and there was a picture of a buxom redhead in a skintight suit on the cover, strongly implied to be Olwen, our protagonist, except that the whole point of the novel is that Olwen's apperance is a mystery until the end, and she doesn't look anything like that.

Both cases are such an extraordinary mismatch that you can't help but come to the conclusion that it must have been a deliberate choice by the publisher like that scene in "Seven Year Itch" were the character decides to rerelease "Little Women" as "Reform School Girls" to justify a lurid cover. At least in that situation they changed the title to match the image!

But those 'Little Woman' should have all been sent to reform school...especially the dead one.

IT'S AN OUTRAGE!

I say we take to the streets and beat up some immigrants. Wait, that's not right. Anne isn't an immigrant.

Really liked the Green Gables done in '85 with Megan Follows and Richard Farnsworth. Forget all this BS.
