The NYPD is conducting the largest social experiment in the city's modern history to confirm that "special bodies of armed men," a.k.a., the police, exist to de...fend the ruling class and not the population. Crime remains low, thousands of Black and Brown people go about their lives unassaulted and the wealthy and powerful are shitting bricks. A great New Year so far.

Plus the entire slow-down by the NYPD is designed to hit the Mayor in the budget, by shorting the city of millions of dollars of revenue. This essentially confirms that police are often used as de facto collectors of impromptu taxes.
There's a town near where I live that is notorious for handing out speeding tickets. Their cops will ticket you for going one mile/hour over the posted limit. BUT, if you show up to the court date, they almost always automatically lower the charge to a parking offense (weird, because you're driving, not parking), because in our state, towns share speeding ticket revenue with the state, but they get to pocket ALL the parking ticket money. The whole thing is a big damn racket, because we can't have a sane, progressive tax structure in this country.
Can you imagine the overtime savings? No one staying more than their eight hours.
